About Marta

Originally from Bulgaria, I am a painter based in Texas. Painting allows me to express things that words can not, and brings me calmness. Through the creation of art, through painting, I find an aesthetic path to explore themes and questions that occupy my mind. 

My inspiration comes from many directions - travel, the beauty of nature, sometimes works of literature and philosophy. I am deeply moved by the art and the stories of the Impressionist artists, and also by old European architecture.  Because of that, I enjoy painting a variety of styles depending on my current mood: modern, contemporary landscapes; large scale abstracts, or floral art. 

AN ARTIST FROM BULGARIA IN TEXAS

I never thought life would bring me to Texas, but here I am! Born and raised in Bulgaria, I left all I knew at 19 years old and moved to New York to attend St. Francis College on a full scholarship. Those were some of the hardest years in my life, but also the most rewarding. After living in New York and working in the fashion industry for 13 years or so, I chose a more creative path and focused all my energy on art. Texas has been my home for ten years now. 

My paintings usually come about  in an intuitive and spontaneous way, using soft, feathery brush strokes. Creative flow comes from music, the sounds of nature, cherished memories and dreams.  

Although not all of the paintings I create are abstract, I particularly enjoy creating oversize, bold abstract art. When you gaze at an abstract artwork, your experience of it is going to be very personal, very individual to you. How you interpret a modern, abstract painting reflects your own lived experiences, memories, and world. It tells you a story that is unique to you, and if you choose to buy abstract art and decorate your home with it, you tell your own story through art

I now reside in Dallas, TX where I work in my sunny home studio.
